New Federal Arts Education Grant Competition Announced
On May 1st, the U.S. Department of Education
announced a new round of grants for the newly-named “Assistance for Arts Education Development & Dissemination” grant program. It was formerly called the Arts Education Model Development & Dissemination
grant program.
This grant competition will focus on, “Projects that develop, disseminate, and integrate high-quality, effective arts-based instructional materials and educational programming, including online resources, in multiple arts disciplines that
(1) increase access to standards-based arts education; (2) integrate standards-based arts education into other subjects as part of a well-rounded education; and (3) improve students' academic performance, including their knowledge and skills in creating, performing,
and responding to the arts.”
In total, about $14 million will be awarded to 20-25 grantees, each receiving about $575,000 per year during their 4 year project cycle.
The first deadline, for Letters of Intent to apply, is May 16th.
This grant competition is made possible through the Assistance to Arts Education program being provided funding by Congress in the U.S. Department of Education’s annual budget. In the FY 2018 Omnibus appropriations bill, the Arts Education
program’s appropriations increased from $27 million to $29 million, which is an outcome of the grassroots advocacy (see
Issue Brief) during national Arts Advocacy Day and throughout the year.

Decade of Federal Arts in Education Funding: Trends, Analysis, and the Story Behind the First 10 Years’.
