Subject: [Americans for the Arts] Schools must be safe places for students to learn and pursue their passions in the arts and beyond
Hi all,
Later today, the following news item will be shared out from Americans for the Arts regarding the recent school shooting at Santa Fe High School in Texas. As members of Americans for the Arts’ Arts Education Networks, I wanted to be sure
to share it with you.
Day to day, we work to empower leaders, like you, who enable equitable systems and create strong policies to support arts education across the country. This vision cannot be achieved however, if schools and other community spaces are not
safe for learners. As outlined in this news item, it is our belief that schools must be safe places for students to learn and pursue their passions in the arts and beyond. In a commitment to continue dialogue around this topic, we must recognize the responses
to these terrible situations are often led by young people and utilize myriad skills that the they have honed from their artistic learning experiences.
I hope this resource (and the compiled links within) provide more information, tools, and language to utilize in your own community.
My best,
Jeff
