Hello and Hola, Good morning and Buenos Dias!

As we head into the holiday season and looking ahead to 2019, I wanted to share two opportunities to support local professional development efforts through sponsoring scholarships for Annual Convention and the National Arts Marketing Project Conference.

In person learning and network building continues to be a vital way for professionals in the field to build knowledge, share ideas and gain inspiration. As a local arts agency, you are a center point of support for the development and success of arts and cultural organizations and the arts and culture community. We invite you to consider investing in the growth of your staff and the staff of your local organizations by supporting a scholarship through AFTA or by promoting the opportunity through your network. We are happy to provide additional information and to assist in promoting your local professional development funds as part of our larger promotional plan for scholarships.

Contact us by email (Ruby, rharper@artsusa.org) by December 28 if:

  1. You would like to pursue providing scholarship funds through the Annual Convention or National Arts Marketing Project Conference platform; OR
  2. You would like to support scholarships through your local program and would like us to include it on our materials for scholarship/ways to save opportunities.

Below find additional information about next year’s events:

ANNUAL CONVENTION IN THE TWIN CITIES             June 14-16, 2019

The Convention in 2019 will work to mirror the generosity and tenacity of the Twin Cities with sessions that raise up the best our field has to offer and challenge us all to reach towards that great work in everything we do. Keyed to the concept of “Genuine Community,” the Convention, with the guidance and support of the local hosts, including Springboard for the Arts, the Minneapolis Office of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy, and the Minneapolis Foundation, will work in the inclusive way that culture pervades the people and land here to craft a special, personal, and culturally specific experience.

Sessions will include focus areas on intercultural leadership and public/private collaborations, as well as core content on public art, arts education, advocacy, communicating value, research, core local arts skills, and more. In addition, special off-site excursions called ArtVentures will bring the attendees into close contact with some of the best work happening on the ground in both Minneapolis and St. Paul for shared experiences and common learning.

PRECONFERENCES 2019                    June 13-14, 2019

EQUITY AND INTERCULTURAL LEADERSHIP – situated in St. Paul
In a unique partnership particularly connected to the great cultural diversity of the Twin Cities region, Americans for the Arts will join the leading organizations of the Intercultural Leadership Institute (NALAC, Alternate ROOTS, First Peoples’ Fund, and Pa’i Foundation) as well as their first class of fellows to develop this preconference, which brings forward an intercultural lens of leadership.

PUBLIC ART AND CIVIC DESIGN – situated in Minneapolis
The relevance of public art is deeply interconnected with the concerns and needs of the communities in which they exist, and this preconference will dig at that intersection. Drawing inspiration from the deep interconnectivity of the Twin Cities arts community as well as ongoing work related to effective artists/municipal partnerships, we will particularly focus on national and local objectives involving planning, transportation, and private development sectors to create public art focused community development projects.

NATIONAL ARTS MARKETING PROJECT CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS        Miami, FL; Nov 15-18

Called the “Gateway to Latin America” the area’s population is 60 percent Hispanic, made up of Cubans, Nicaraguans, Colombians, Puerto Ricans, and Venezuelans—all influencing the city’s rich cultural offerings. Considered an international hub, Miami has reached a sophistication to with hip Miami Beach at its heart boasting a classic Art Deco District and North Beach’s Miami Modern architecture.

In downtown Miami, a mélange of neighborhoods welcome visitors including the Cuban-inspired Little Havana, the art-driven Design District, architecturally rich Coral Gables, and the laid-back beachfront community of Coconut Grove. The area’s tropical climate makes it a year-round destination.

Speakers will explore topics of cultural tourism, destination marketing, audience development, audience engagement, data-driven targeted marketing strategies and much more. Preconferences are still in development for this event.

Do let me know if you have any questions. Hope you have an amazing and prosperous 2019!!

Ruby
