What to expect from this year's 28 Days of Black History series.

Black History Month starts here.

It's Black History Month, and we're back with our fourth-annual series of programming, starting with 28 Days of Black History, a daily newsletter during the month of February that highlights Black history and future.

This year's theme for Black History Month – set by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) – is "African Americans and the Arts".

I'm a magician (yes, really), and one of the few Black women in this field. I'm overjoyed that I get to lead this conversation this month and celebrate the artists who inspire me and have paved the way for my own journey.

The series will kick off on February 1, 2024, in the evening. There will be some special surprises we'll announce along the way! Until then, use the resources below to learn more about what to expect. Feel free to reply to this email (or any email in the series) with questions!

And yes, there will be 29 days of content this leap year, even though we're sticking with the 28 Days of Black History name.

Have our founder Nicole Cardoza, a celebrated public speaker and magician, lead a conversation on the role of art in shaping resistances throughout history and reimaginging our future.

The workshop includes:

  • An overview of the influence of Black artists from across the diaspora, and the social and cultural conditions that accelerated or stymied Black cultural development.
  • The specific actions that individuals and workplaces can take to support Black artist development in their industry.
  • Storytelling led through stage magic that engages and captivates participants, bringing stories of Black magic to life.
