Hello Alyssa, et. al.,

The City of Albuquerque Public Art Program is within the Public Art Urban Enhancement Division of the Cultural Services Department. Yes that’s a big huge mouthful, but we say it just like that (nearly) every time.

We are incredibly grateful for our “mothership” Cultural Services Department who provides leadership, support and political cover when we need it.

We (Public Art) are 40 years old and the 1% for Public Art Program is older than our department is, so most people identify the Public Art Program as a much bigger program that lives “somewhere” within City government. Which is ok…the important thing is that we have existed, and continue to exist serving the public in our city and artist from all over.

Attached are some org charts and a link our most recent department annual report to show how we are completely nestled within the bureaucracy. The PAUED org chart is just for our division and also includes how we work with contractors.

This annual report from 2016 is being reformatted under our new administration, but you can read about all of the other things our municipal department does in the arts from the zoo, botanic garden, art museum galleries and grants…Enjoy!

Hope this help!

For people whose arts offices aren’t independent, but part of a local government, I have a few questions for you:
