Arts + Culture Mean Impact
The latest Creative State Michigan® research shows that the Nonprofit Arts and Culture sector contribute to a strong economy, vibrant
communities, meaningful jobs and engagement of Michigan youth. In its seventh edition, Creative State Michigan explores the impact of this sector and makes the case for greater investment in our arts, culture and creative industries.
HIGHLIGHTS: CREATIVE STATE MICHIGAN
The report represents FY 2015 data from 410 nonprofit arts and culture organizations — an estimated 16% of the sector.
Here's what we learned about their impact:
- Economy: $1.25 Billion in direct expenditures to Michigan's economy
- Community: 17+ Million visitors came through the organizations ... enough to sell out Comerica Park 415 times!
- Jobs: Over 25,000 jobs in Michigan communities from this sector with 91,000+ people engaged as volunteers, employees and contractors
- Education: 4.1 Million schoolchildren experienced arts and cultural venues and events
- Tourism: $1.3 Billion in direct tourism spending to arts and culture activities in 2016
