We’ll be joined by this year’s Michael Newton Award Winner, Bill Marino, Executive Director of the Lakewood-West Colfax Business Improvement District in Denver, Colorado. Bill led the charge to transform the West Colfax Corridor of Lakewood, in the Denver Metro area, into a thriving cultural district that would attract residents and businesses. Bill is also the Co-Founder of the Creative Lab of Colorado, which is a Colorado state-wide resource and service organization.  The Lab is a collection of collaborative capabilities, centered around creativity, innovation, and the entrepreneurial spirit.  The Lab is a public-private 501 (c) 3 nonprofit.  In 2018, the State of Colorado has asked Bill to assist 6 of the Colorado State Creative Districts, which are having difficulty in launching. Bill has received the 2015 Colorado Business Committee for the Arts Leadership Award. The 40 West Arts District was awarded the Inspire Award in 2016 by the Urban Land Institute. In 2018, Bill received the Steve Burkholder Diamond Legacy Award from the West Chamber of Commerce. Americans for the Arts awarded Bill the Michael Newton Award in 2018 for his innovation in developing arts and business partnerships for the arts and for his long-term achievement in effective and creative techniques that engage the private sector.

We will also be joined on the call by Margaret Hunt, Director of Colorado Creative Industries. She was appointed in 2013 by Governor John Hickenlooper following a national search. CCI advances creative economy strategies and administers a nationally recognized Creative District Program, the Space to Create initiative (affordable live/work spaces for creative sector workforce in rural communities), a Creative District Community Loan Fund, Art in Public Places and grants for career advancement for creative enterprises throughout Colorado. Margaret brings experience in community and economic development from both the private, for-profit sector as well as state and local government.

Please register and join us on December 5!

Best,
