Hi Angela:
For our project, Terpsichore for Kansas City, we brought in 3 composers and cooperated with them to turn a large parking garage into a musical instrument that responds to the motion of cars and people. The garage has a 60 foot high atrium that includes what we call a light organ and 128 speakers are distributed throughout the garage with the sound moving throughout the 1000 foot long garage. You can see the piece and see and hear the sound from a video on our web site, www.harriesheder.com. The video only gives a sketchy rendition of the piece because the acoustics in the garage and the spatial movement of the sound are amazing. If you want to hear more about the piece, you can call me at 617 501 5698,
With best regards,
Lajos Héder

Does anyone know of an example where a composer was invited to create a musical score to respond to a work of public art?

Thank you.
