Hi Angela

Great question!

Patrick Marold worked with musician Boyd Waller on Virga: Sound Performance in Denver. Denver also commissioned Kevin Padworski to create a piece of music titled Ascent for the chimes at the City and County Building. These two projects were managed by Rudi Cerri, who is an excellent resource for innovative projects.

In a slightly different vein, Boulder commissioned Katie Shlon to create musical instruments from our quarantined ash trees from the emerald ash borer epidemic. He performance was an improvisational piece with the nature surrounding the site.

I’m sure there are more out there too, these are just ones off the top of my head.

Subject: Musical composition commissioned to accompany public art project

Does anyone know of an example where a composer was invited to create a musical score to respond to a work of public art?

Thank you.
