Hi Kay,

Dominican University of California is embracing the 2020 Census as a university-wide community engagement theme and will partner with the Marin County Census Committee. Various courses will address issues regarding the census with respect to hard-to-count, or traditionally low count communities through service-learning and longstanding community partnerships. This coming fall I will teach a service-learning community-engaged art class partnering with Performing Stars in Marin City. Marin City is a predominantly African American community with strong community ties and social activism. It has also endured a history of marginalization within Marin County, and had a low count status in the 2010 census. While the exact public art pieces are still to be determined, Dominican students will partner and collaborate with Performing Stars' social justice youth group, and residents in Marin City's public housing to promote awareness of and involvement in the 2020 census. If you are interested in receiving updates  as the project develops, I'm happy to stay in touch.

All the best,

Is anyone programming public art that engages issues of the upcoming census?
