The ASC Public Art Program has published a new call to artists:

Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department – South Division

Project Budget: $63,112 USD

Deadline to apply: August 23, 2019 at 11:59 EDT

The Arts & Science Council is accepting qualifications from artists for a public art opportunity at the upcoming CMPD South Police Station.  ASC is seeking artists with a demonstrated record of creating low-relief images on exterior architectural facades.

The selected artist will work with the ASC, staff from the City of Charlotte’s Engineering and Property Management Department, C-Design Architects, CMPD representatives, and local communities to create low-relief image that responds to the parameters of the site, the aesthetics of the architecture, and the character of the South Division neighborhood.  The mural should highlight the relationship between the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department and the community they serve. The selected artist will be expected to engage with both police department staff and area residents to develop the concept for their work.

The anticipated mural will be highly visible, sited on the front façade of the storage building, near the street entrance, measuring 18’- 6” (H) x 27’-6” (W). The selected artist will be responsible for creating a visually interesting experience for viewers from a distance as well as up close. The building material will be comprised of an ultra-high performance concrete panel consisting of linear panels of varying widths, however the material finish may be negotiable for the mural area. The selected artist will also be responsible for installation of the mural, including necessary blocking, and all materials and equipment necessary to execute the mural; e.g. scaffolding, telescoping boom lifts, etc.
