We are hiring a Program Assistant for Creative Spaces and Public Art

 

Part-time position: 10 hours per week

Start date: July/August 2019

Work location: 2667 Prosperity Ave, Fairfax, Virginia 22031

 

COMPENSATION:

Salary:  $10,000

Benefits: flexible schedule (no paid holidays or leave)

 

OVERVIEW:

This position is responsible for assisting with the development of resources to facilitate public art and creative space reuse in Fairfax County. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Creative Spaces:

•             Assist with the development of a Creative Spaces toolkit that provides information and guidelines to assist the Fairfax County artists, arts organizations and private property owners in the activation of vacant spaces for temporary and extended creative use.

•             Research vacant spaces, ownership, and update inventory of available spaces.

•             Work with staff to research interactive mapping apps to identify available space and assist in connecting artists and arts organizations with owners.

 

Public Art:

•             Build a public art inventory based upon ARTSFAIRFAX’s current open source app listings including tagging and researching missing information to complete entries.  Research alternative apps and programs.

•             Research and assist with the development of a public art toolkit including artists, consultants, best practices, and permitting resources to facilitate public art in all media.

•             Assist with temporary and permanent public art projects as needed.

 

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED:

•             Experience working in performing and/or visual arts.

•             Knowledge of the Fairfax and regional arts community.

•             Knowledge of commercial real estate desirable.

•             Highly effective written and verbal communications skills. 

•             Ability to plan, initiate and complete tasks and projects independently, as well as ability to work well in a team planning environment.

•             Attention to detail.

•             Ability to work diplomatically with staff, board members, and arts community.

•             Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

•             Proficiency with Word, XLS, and Outlook.

ARTSFAIRFAX:

ARTSFAIRFAX is a 501c3 local arts agency that provides arts information and advocacy services to the general public; grants financial support to arts organizations and programs in Fairfax County; and offers arts services to artists, arts organizations and the Fairfax community.
