Hello Friends,

The City of Boise is seeking artist applications for the development of a public art project to celebrate the life of a prominent Boise citizen, Erma Hayman. We are grateful for any artist recommendations who we can reach out to.

Thanks!

PUBLIC ART FOR THE ERMA HAYMAN HOUSE

DEADLINE: September 18th, 2019 at 2 pm., local time (MST)

TOTAL BUDGET: $125,000

ARTIST BUDGET:  $100,000

INSTALLATION BUDGET: $25,000

Opportunity
Boise City invites public artists to apply for an opportunity to design and fabricate public artwork for a significant, historic and cultural site: the Erma Hayman House. The artwork shall serve as a visual narrative about the neighborhood’s history. The artwork must prominently feature Erma Hayman during her life spent in the River Street Neighborhood in downtown Boise. The artwork shall be designed to be installed/implemented on a newly constructed blank concrete wall that measures approximately 110 ft. long by 12 ft. high. The wall is located immediately to the North of the historic site, between the Hayman House and a work-force housing development. This site allows for the artwork to be applied/attached to the wall and can accommodate a surface treatment, sculptural relief, or other approach that addresses the wall format and integrates with the planned landscaping and site improvements. The artist will be expected to coordinate/collaborate during the historic research and design phase with the City’s project team; the team includes members from the Public Art Program, Cultural Sites Program, History Program, Planning and Development Services, and the Public Works Department.
Up to three artists may be selected from this Request for Qualifications as finalists who may be invited to Boise for a site visit and interview process. The selected artist(s) will be provided a combined project total of $100,000 to formalize the design, fabricate, and transport the work to the site. Installation of the work will be coordinated with a contractor that has an Idaho State Public Works License that will be managed by and paid for separately by the City of Boise. The budget for installation is $25,000.
