We recently did a crosswalk project around the town square in Council Bluffs. We used Alumigraphics Grip – a thin aluminum sheeting that we were able to print onto directly. The product has been better tested
for sidewalks, so we knew there was some amount of risk in the project. The installation went well and the colors were very vibrant. Ultimately, it was undermined in a number of weeks due to water seeping under the product and it beginning to peel.
Most relevant to this conversation however, is that even the very vibrant colors faded somewhat quickly not because the paint faded, but due to dirt from the tires. When we cleaned portions of it, it brought
back the vibrancy. So, perhaps the paint dulled due to the traffic rather than a problem with the paint?
