We ask to see a signed contract with the artist if it is a commissioned piece, or an invoice if it is a purchased piece.

Dear PAN Peeps with Art in Public Places in Private Development programs:

When developers propose purchase of artwork through a gallery or other source (existing or commissioned), what is your method of confirming the cost? Do you accept an invoice from the source as sufficient, do you require an independent appraisal of the artwork, or apply some other method to justify expense?

Apologies if this is obvious; seeking backup.

Thanks!
