I would be interested in the question of % for art funds supporting artist live workspaces and also curious if there are examples of lodging or bed tax funds have being used for this?

    Hello All,
Does anyone have examples (preferably good examples!) of public art programs implemented by public education systems. I am especially interested in secondary at this time, but postsecondary is absolutely useful as well.
Specific areas of need include insight around:
Collection managementDonation procedures and best practicesPolicy for maintenanceGeneral administrative guidelinesStudent curriculum/engagementCollection managementResources and financial obligations for districtsPermissible use of fundsArtist selection processStudent artist engagement
Any insight or connections to insight is so appreciated.

    Hello,
I reccommended taking at look at the Public Art for Public Schools Program based in NYC.
    https://www.schools.nyc.gov/school-life/buildings/public-art-for-public-schools
    And
    http://www.nycsca.org/Community/Public-Art-for-Public-Schools/Programs
They have a long history of commissions, collection management, and also placing artists in residence through a program called Sites for Students.

    Dear PAN Listserv Folks,

Given the fact that many communities are expanding opportunities for ways in which percent for art dollars can be spent, I am looking for examples of specific projects involving artist live/work spaces that have been in some way been funded through percent for art dollars.  Any information will be greatly appreciated and I’m happy to share results with anyone else who is interested.  Thanks!

I’m looking for examples of funny plaques that go with public art and/or historical features. I’ve done a Google search and find a lot of examples of funny signs but they aren’t really plaques that go with discreet public art.

    Hi Lucas and All,
The Sand Creek Byway may be of interest to you. On this project I worked with an engineering team and the Idaho Department of Transportation.
We changed out the standard post and beam highway construction for landscaped MSE Green Walls.
Previously, I had introduced MSE Green Walls, at a smaller scale, on the D Street Pedestrian Bridge. See: http://www.vickiscuri.com/project-dstreet.html
In both situations, the MSE Green Walls were less expensive to construct and more environmental than standard construction methods using MSE concrete cladding, or standard post and beam construction.
With the money we saved, we created more pedestrian amenities for the projects. As the budgets were integrated with the overall projects, I do not have specific line-item costs for the MSE Green Walls.
Good Luck with your search. I would like to see the results if you share them.
    Thanks,
    Vicki

Short-term liability insurance for artwork repair by Jarica Walsh (23 Sep 2019 20:17 UTC)

I am working with an artist to perform repairs on an artwork created a decade ago. The artist is no longer working as a sculptor, therefore not carrying liability insurance. I am trying to locate a policy that can cover him to perform the two-day repair. Do you have any suggestions or advice for a short-term policy for this kind of coverage? Have you run into any situations like this?

    Hi Jarica,
CODAworx offers an Art Installation Insurance Program provided by our partner SSEI that is intended to provide short term general liability coverage for artists. Most artists are taking this coverage to cover them during the period of installation, since many times their studio coverage doesn't adequately cover them when they are on-site. Depending on a few different variables the program should be able to provide coverage for the artist for an on-site repair project too. You or the artist can apply for a free quote on the coverage here on our website: https://www.codaworx.com/insurance
I will also be doing an in-depth Q&A with the CEO of SSEI Insurance at our CODAsummit conference next week in El Paso, Texas. Anyone planning to attend can send me questions in advance and I'll make sure they are answered!

Thanks, Nick. I just reached out to them, but they said they can't offer coverage for repairs. This is the issue I'm running into, no one offers a policy to cover the repair work, only the initial installation. I'm not able to attend the summit next week, but if you could ask about this issue, it would be much appreciated!

    Hi Jarica

You may want to work with an art conservator and have them consult with the artist. Especially if the artwork is 10 years old. You don’t say what the damage is, but I have found that older artworks can have issues that are beyond the skillset of the artist even though they created it in the first place. It depends on many factors of course, not least budget.

To tag onto what Clare said, it is often better to have the conservator do the work anyway because the conservator will 1) have liability insurance to cover the work and 2) focus simply on the repair that needs to be done. What I have seen happen on a couple of occasions is that the artist may try to do more than just repair the work. It is nice to involve the artist in the process if she/he/they is interested.  That way the artist can oversee the work and ensure that it is done to his/her/their standards.
