Hi Sheila - We are still learning to work with multiple languages. Here are examples of a multi-lingual banner (English, French, Michif, Ininiw/Cree, and Anishinabemowin/Ojibway) and flyer (English, Punjabi and Tagalog) that we have created. For both of these projects, the use of language was intended to be welcoming rather than truly didactic. We regularly produce bilingual English/French signage and have found the size required for multi-lingual didactic panels can be overwhelmingly large when also meeting accessibility design standards (minimum font sizes).

Thanks for raising this issue. I look forward to learning through examples from others as well!

Hi Shelia,

We have made language access a big priority and while I don’t have a sign example I have attached a flyer.

It does get visually cluttered when you have lots of text, so we have learned to minimalize the text as much as possible and direct people to web-based information where google translate is available.

All the best,

Jo

Hey PanPals!

Do you have great examples of multi-lingual signage from your public art program?

We are specifically looking for examples that are for longer, didactic information, and provided in 3-4 languages.

Alternatively, if you have any wise ideas on how to ensure non-english speaking audiences have access to written content, I'd love to hear how you/your organization is managing that challenge.

Thanks so much

Sheila
