Hi Julia,
In Portland, Oregon, Heritage Conservation Group has spearheaded conservation of WPA-era artworks located in several public school buildings. Funding came from
a variety of sources-foundations, state government agencies, and grassroots efforts. Here is an article on the restoration of a marquetry mural at Chapman Elementary School:
https://oregonheritage.wordpress.com/2016/11/23/successful-restoration-of-wpa-mural-at-chapman-elementary-school-in-portland/ and a painted mural at Abernathy Elementary School:

I can put you into contact with the lead conservator if you are interested in learning more.
Cheers,
Eleanor

Subject: Conservation/restoration of a 1970s-era abstract mural
Colleagues--has anyone successfully written grants to major funders for the conservation or restoration of a mural from the 1970s? We have an important (to us) one from 1973 that is now over 50 years old and therefore can be classified
as "historic," and wondering if there were any strategies we can pursue to make the restoration happen through historic preservation grants. We've already lined up a donor for half the required funds, if that matters.
What is the overall funding picture for public murals conservation?
Thanks,
Julia Muney Moore (she/her/hers)
