Last week Americans for the Arts in partnership with the Public Art Network Advisory Council launched a new resource to support national dialogue on cultural equity and inequities in the public art field. The paper “Cultural Equity in the Public Art Field” was written in collaboration with the 2019 Public Art Network Advisory Council Cultural members Amina Cooper, Chris Guerra, Susan Lambe, Julia Muney Moore, and Ruri Yampolsky.

Building on Americans for the Arts’ Statement on Cultural Equity, “Cultural Equity in the Public Art Field” provides a foundation for understanding the intersections of cultural equity in the public art field by naming several common inequitable issues, highlighting where the field is currently stands in this dialogue, and outlining a few ways to move forward. This document is the first in a series of resources to be launched this year to help public art administrators and other local arts practitioners to move the needle forward in understanding what cultural inequities exist in programs and processes and how to address them.
