In 2016 I commissioned Matthew Hoffman too create "May This Never End." The 4-foot x 319-foot artwork, made of bright yellow high density polyethylene, reads: “Nothing’s for keeps. Except that we must keep going. You’ll spend your entire life searching, ok? We all want to belong. So let’s all get along. Make the most, and hope. May this never end.”

Hoffman is the Custodian of “You Are Beautiful,” a project to better the world in little ways. Hoffman began the project as a graffiti-style self-affirmation scrawled on the rusting trusses of an underpass in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago. Following significant praise for this tiny gesture, Hoffman began to develop stickers bearing the phrase that have now been circulated across the globe, as well as massive installations in all manner of media. The message has reached every corner of the globe, with over 2 million stickers shared.

The total project budget was around $13K, artist fee was $4,500.

The City of Boston ended up purchasing this temporary based work on The Greenway and reinstalled it in the Allston neighborhood in Boston.

Understanding that language is a powerful tool, the City of Oklahoma City’s Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs would like to ask network members about their experience using text/written word as a basis for public art.  We’d like to see examples of workwith small and large budgets and we’d love to know about artist fees for work as small as one line and as large as a paragraph.  We’re especially interested in examples in sidewalks, trails and benches or other infrastructure improvements.  Thank you.
