Hello Artists,
We hope this email finds you healthy and enjoying extra time in your studios. It certainly is not business as usual in Virginia but we are teleworking to enhance the arts in our community. Please consider applying online for these public
art and partnership opportunities.
Timelines may be adjusted as the coronavirus evolves.
NEON Design Team Artist
The Norfolk Public Art Commission wants to hire an artist to work with RK&K Engineering to upgrade the NEON Arts District streetscape. The artist will collaborate
with engineers to design integrated art elements into the plan which encompasses both sides of the street along three blocks of Granby Street between Brambleton Avenue and Virginia Beach
Boulevard. This is an opportunity to influence the overall aesthetic of the District. The art project design could include material choices, tree grates, sidewalks, furniture, sites for temporary and permanent public art, planters, bollards, pavement treatments
and other creative ideas. The artist will be responsible for interacting with the art community and facilitating stakeholder involvement necessary for the artwork/streetscape plan to advance. Engineers have begun work and the selected design team artist will
need to be sensitive to what may be limited opportunities. The design timeline is moving quickly.
Budget: $35,000

Municipal Artists Partnerships
Norfolk Arts will hire two artists who are drawn to community engagement, collaboration, and want to create work to address a specific social issue. Municipal Artists are short-term
partnerships to co-create art with staff and a community. Artists will develop and create a tangible project that focuses on solutions that address a specific area of concern. Projects may take many forms, such as digital media, two- or three-dimensional visual
artwork, multimedia performances, theatrical productions, animation, dance, filmmaking, photography, educational workshops, puppet theater, immersive installations, poetry, storytelling, events, walking tours, media campaigns or online projects. The projects
will be interactive, readily accessible and engage people to participate.
Artists may apply to work with1) the St. Paul’s Transformation Office to develop innovative ways to make Norfolk residents aware of the importance of the St. Paul’s Development.
This is one of the largest public housing projects in the country and the art project will help all Norfolk residents understand its importance.
