Hi Lynn and All,

It does not seem too soon at all to be discussing the future of percent-for-art programs/funding. Our staff has begun the conversation of how we pivot our resources for the best of the community. The conversation has only begun, so there is nothing fruitful to share just yet, but it seems to be a pressing topic and in our best interest as we are seeing projects slow or come to a halt.

To answer your questions directly:
  1. As it stands, we are holding all committed funds in existing projects and working with artists to identify what can be achieved now and what has to be delayed. Our funds are untied from other capital projects and are able to roll from year to year, so I am hopeful that we will continue to have the current funding available.
  2. We have been ordered not to release any new RFQs or sign new contracts if a selection process has happened. We currently have a few projects which unfortunately fall into the later category. I hope we can find a resolution sooner than later for these artists who are now in limbo.

1.)    Unclear at this time.

2.)    Here in Worcester we were preparing to roll out three new calls to artists this month. We are holding until we have a better understanding on needs of our city and funding that remains. Right now our focus is on relief and support for arts , culture workers and cultural organizations.

3.)    Still, we remain committed to making art for all.

I realize this question might be too soon, but I'm about to teach a class to a bunch of anxious artists who are interested in hearing our best guess.  With respect to your own programs:

 

1)  Are funds that are already allocated for commissions going to stay in the pipeline or will they go away?

 

2)  Will you be issuing new RFQ's or are you getting signs that everything is on hold?
