Dear PAN Listserv,

Like many of you I have been watching our nation struggle this past week with racial injustice and the coronavirus, both of which disproportionately impact the lives of Black Americans and other Americans of color. The powerful demonstrations of those who are choosing to exercise their freedom to protest over the fear of the ongoing pandemic is to be admired and beholden to those of us witnessing this time of revolution. In acknowledgement of the challenges facing Black Americans, Americans for the Arts released a statement on our Facebook page to show support for the Black community during this time of change. To that end, there is much work to be done to ensure our programs and forums such as the PAN listserv is inclusive to all and play a part in the dismantling of white supremacists systems. I don’t have answers right now and will be working with the other listserv managers at AFTA to address this issue.

And as a former collection manager I can understand what it means to see the artworks I cared for be damaged. There is clean up and rebuilding that will need to be done and to that I want to make sure you have access to resources to help where necessary. The resources below may not answer all questions, but that in part is what this listserv is for.

I hope this list of resources can help you and your communities through the immediate future

For inspiration on the positive role artist and art play in healing communities

It is an honor to serve all of you through this time of change. Please feel free to reach out with thoughts, additional resources or just to connect about what is happening in your community.

In the meantime, stay safe, take care of yourself, and be kind to each other.

We have a long way to go.
