Good afternoon everyone, Following up on Randy's question about owning written works, what are the general guidelines and best practices for commissioning a piece of writing that will be realized physically in public space?
Imagining you commission the writer separate from the artist or installer that will create physical work:
-what is an appropriate budget range for the writing?
-Is it typical for the writer to be involved in the physical layout and installation? Does the writer's time in reviewing the layout warrant it's own budget line, or should it be part of the overall commission?
-Is the RFQ model still work best for seeking site-specific writing? Should there be a semifinalist round to request a first draft or sample of the final writing?
-Are there other nuances to commissioning writing for public art one should keep in mind?
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
