Hello all!
I am embarking on a Temp art installation for our downtown after construction and new development has made it a bit of a mess for the past 5 years. I am having some pedestals created for them. Some we’re over engineering so that they can act as safety devices with our bollards that keep people from driving on sidewalks or into our street festivals (which we have many.)
I have 3 pedestals which will be 4’h x 4’w x 2’tall.
I that is 4’h x 4’w x 4.5’tall (this is for safety).
And one that is 72’ in diameter 2’ tall. We’re removing a unfunctional fountain. I’m going to put something there until I can commission a piece for the location.
I fashioned my program like Napa California with a weight cap of 2000 lb. This is to help with shipping. My honorarium is not very big ($3500) and the artist is responsible for shipping and insurance (that is another thread altogether). I got the sense from a few people that it’s too limiting, since we do have access to art that comes into the area for Burning Man.
What would you do for these small pedestals?
What should I assume for weight load for the 72’ pedestal for a large piece that could be 10-25+ ft tall?
I’ve attached the locations if that helps. This includes a mural, so disregard that.
Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.
Stay safe and be well. We’re in this together.
