Dear Colleagues,

I’m working on a public art project for a 300-foot-long, 12-foot-tall, 16 foot-wide subterranean passageway. The tunnel is sited 30-feet below the interstate and will be the only connection for pedestrians to reach either side of the greenway. Pedestrians must utilize the tunnel if they want to travel to the other side of the greenway. The artist is creating a programmable, permanent light installation for the tunnel to increase visibility and enhance resident safety, however there are concerns regarding ADA accessibility.

Please share any examples of existing public art tunnel projects with programmable LED lighting which include a solution for ADA concerns regarding the following:

    1. The artwork’s potential to trigger Vertigo and/or seizures
    2. People who have a Dx of MS, Strokes, Migraines, Epilepsy, and other disabilities have a higher risk of episodes of vertigo.
    3. Some people with Sensory Processing Disorders and / or who have Autism are fearful / anxious of vestibular input. They may have an episode of gravitational disregard that puts them in physical danger.
    4. People with low vision can become confused if there are optically misleading geometric patterns on the floor or walking surface.

Thank you in advance for sharing any available information.

Best,

Randella
