Dear colleagues,
The City of Palmdale is considering a large sculpture by an artist who specializes in mirrored surfaces. The artist’s presentation was very well received by the Artist Selection Committee and stakeholders alike. We are in an Aerospace
Valley and there is a solar field being developed locally which raised some concerns with the stakeholders who want to make sure the reflections from an 8’ sculpture will not adversely affect local flight patterns. There is a dramatic difference between the
glint from a sculpture with convex surfaces and the overwhelming light coming from a solar farm, but I have been tasked with gathering feedback from other communities with reflective sculptures (think Anish Kapoor’s Cloud Gate AKA Bean). Any feedback is appreciated,
particularly if the sculpture in question is located near an airport runway.
In gratitude,
--
