Hi Jennifer,

The City of Mercer Island adopted its first Arts & Culture Plan as part of the Land Use Element of our Comprehensive Plan and as an appendix in 2018. Beginning next year, we will undertake another major update of the comp plan, at which time I hope to revisit the Arts & Culture Plan in a more cohesive, integrated way. Here are links to the current plan:

Goals integrated into Land Use Element: https://mercerisland.municipal.codes/CompPlan/Land_V_Arts

Appendix: https://mercerisland.municipal.codes/CompPlan/AxD

Additionally, we are in the process of updating our Parks, Recreation, and Open Space (PROS) Plan, which will include a goal related to arts, culture, and heritage. Here are two draft chapters that explicitly discuss arts and culture:

Chapter 4: Goals & Objectives

Chapter 7: Recreation, Arts, and Culture

Best,

SB

Subject: Art Element and General Plans

Hi All,

For those of you who work in city/county/town governments – do you have an art element in your general plan, or have you creatively and successfully integrated arts/culture into your general plan?

If so, would you be willing to share a link to the plan? I’m happy to collate and share back if people would be interested. It doesn’t have to be just about public art, however bonus points if PA somehow makes an appearance.

Thanks everyone,

Jennifer A. Easton
