Hi Sarah--the pandemic has led us to develop a "ballot" process where each panelist reviews the applications online and votes yes/no/maybe on a form. These evaluations are translated numerically to scores and added up to create a ranking, and then a follow-up panel meeting (in person or virtual) discusses the rankings and the applications in ranked order. Any applicants with scores indicating less than half the panelists voted "yes" or "maybe" are not included in this follow-up review.

PRO: everyone works the first review at their own speed, helps the process of working together be more efficient; first review is (usually) untainted by "groupthink"
CON: not everyone turns in their ballot on time; can be cumbersome with lots of applicants; may require a preliminary orientation session (individual or group) or a reference packet to help set the project context prior to application review; long Zoom meetings are tiring and the process usually requires a 2nd group meeting after narrowing and giving consideration time, maybe a week later

Dear Public Art Admin Colleagues,

Seeking some of your thoughts, here;

Just wondering what your thoughts are on:
 - sending a group of panel members the list of qualified applicants for their review, prior to a selection discussion,
VS,
 - taking them through the first review of qualified applicants within a real-time, live, group discussion.

I was trained in always doing the latter;
but, with advances in technology making it easier to create members-only platforms to allow the former, just wondering if any here have carried out pre-selection reviews that way (letting individual selection panel members review on their own, and possibly vote and/or comment first),

...and what your 'pro's and 'cons' might be.

Thank you,
Best,
Sarah
