Hm, I've never been asked to do that, and I've supervised dozens of sculptures. As long as the sculpture's structural plan has been stamped by a licensed engineer, a certified welder has never been required.

Dear PAN Listserv,

We are in negotiation to purchase a beautiful sculpture for one of our parks.  The artwork was fabricated in 2019 entirely by the artist, including the welding and brazing.  The artist has a general contractor’s license but our City Building Official wants critical/structural art piece welds done by a CA certified welding fabricator or, at the very least, that the work be supervised by a certified welder.

What is the stance on this topic in your respective municipalities and is it a hard line or is there built in flexibility?

Any thoughts?

In gratitude,
