Hi Tony.  Here in Indianapolis all permanent signs have to be approved, whether it's through the signage permit process or through the Art in the Public Right-of-Way process. Factuality and language are checked in the latter, since it's City property, but the signage permit for artwork on private property does not check for either. All signage for artwork created with City funding is approved through the City's representatives at some point in the process.

Can anyone share their municipality's process for content review of sign or plaque text? We often have instances of text from external sources (eg an applicant proposing to put an informational sign on public property) as well as internal sources (eg descriptive signage for City-led public art projects). Does anyone have particular levels of approval in place to check items such as this for 1) factuality or 2) appropriate/City-approved language?
