Hi Deirdre,

We are in the process of placing sculptures in traffic circles here in Augusta, GA.  The sculptures are selected to be proportional for the particular roundabouts they’ll be in, so there isn’t a standard.  Basically, big enough to be seen, but not so big as to be traffic accident inducing.  Then the bases are made to not let the sculpture tip over.  Structural engineer input has been key for those.

Subject: Public Artwork in Medians/Traffic Islands

Hi PAN:

Here in Arlington, VA, we are wondering if any program has guidelines for placing public art in a median/traffic islands, i.e. the height of artwork in traffic islands, size (h x w) of the base, etc. Any details would be helpful.

Much thanks,

Deirdre
