Vicki,

You are absolutely correct and your statement and reasoning is right on the money.

We will only respond to an RFQ process.  And you are also accurate when you say that “selection is only the beginning.”

Thank you,

David

Subject: Re: Hiring artists directly without proposals?

Hello Elizabeth,

It is great to see responses from others.

To me, the proposal process is very flawed, because proposals are created in a vacuum without the benefit of penetrating questions to the Community, Team or Client. These questions can only be asked if you are already hired, and on the Team…then you can inform and expand the dialogue because you are a Team Player, rather than a Competing Contestant. Most proposals cannot be built as conceived or built at all. The best work is not judged or built by proposal, but rather by evaluating previously built work, and interviewing the Artist about his or her process and intent. Call references. I agree with Sallyann Kluz, the best process for Artist, Client, and Community is an ongoing one that informs the work as it develops. The selection process is only the beginning.

I strongly advocate for the RFQ process over the RFP process.

Good Luck!

Vicki

Hello Art Admins;

Have you ever sent out an RFQ and hired the artist directly from there without them developing a proposal?  I’m thinking you are missing a big piece of the process by eliminating the selection panel on the final process by doing so.  Would appreciate your thoughts and opinions please.
