Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (typically written in short-hand as DEI) is an ongoing, and growing topic of discussion for public art programs across the country. Broad as it
is deep, DEI encompasses many questions from how are artist being selected for a project? to What artworks are in the public realm and are they appropriate? Not always easy or obvious to answer, the public art field is up to the challenge in addressing these
growing concerns. Some of these issues were addressed during our first Ask An Expert virtual meeting where three public art administrators discussed this topic with 30 professionals. Topics included how to find artists of diverse backgrounds to how were DEI
policies developed to how selection panels are being diversified. You can find a recording of that session
here, and also check out addtional resources and examples on Cultural Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the
Public Art Resource Center.
Issues discussed in this section are pulled from the PAN Listserv. Join the conversation with other members by signing up
