This newsletter will be a learning platform to help you gain insight into the current issues and trends in the public art field, and to help you make the most of your membership to Americans for the Arts and the Public Art Network.   I look forward to helping you stay connected to the issues and trends taking place in the public art field!   Best,  Patricia Walsh, Public Art Programs Manager  topics & Trends Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (typically written in short-hand as DEI) is an ongoing, and growing topic of discussion for public art programs across the country. Broad as it is deep, DEI encompasses many questions from how are artist being selected for a project? to What artworks are in the public realm and are they appropriate? Not always easy or obvious to answer, the public art field is up to the challenge in addressing these growing concerns. Some of these issues were addressed during our first Ask An Expert virtual meeting where three public art administrators discussed this topic with 30 professionals. Topics included how to find artists of diverse backgrounds to how were DEI policies developed to how selection panels are being diversified. You can find a recording of that session here, and also check out addtional resources and examples on Cultural Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the Public Art Resource Center.    Americans for the Arts supports DEI conversations through our Statement on Cultural Equity and our Statement on the Intersection of Arts, History and Community Dialogue. Member Spotlight This month we are shining a spotlight on Kati Stegall, Public Art Project Manager for the City of Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture who has been a leader in the fight for federal funding for arts and transit programs and an experienced project manager. Kati Stegall recently joined the City of Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture in September 2017. She relocated from Charlotte, NC where she served as Art-in-Transit Program Administrator for the Charlotte Area Transit System for 8 years. There she managed the integration of public art into transit capital improvement projects including the Blue Line Extension Light Rail Project opening in March 2018, CityLYNX Gold Line Streetcar Project, Albemarle Park and Ride Project, and Beatties Ford Road Redevelopment Corridor Project. In addition, she was responsible for the development and implementation of community education and outreach efforts and maintenance of program resources. She holds an MA in Arts Administration from Winthrop University and a BA in Sculpture and French from Covenant College.
