CALL TO ARTISTS:  REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS FOR PUBLIC ART FOR SCISSORTAIL UPPER PARK (RFQ-OCITY-049)

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS:  Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 4:00:00PM

The City of Oklahoma City announces this call for professional artists to submit their qualifications to be considered for public art that will serve as a dynamic anchoring and threshold for the new downtown Metropolitan Area Projects (MAPS 3) Scissortail Upper Park in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  A commission of $500,000 will be awarded for this work intended to bolster Oklahoma City’s growing reputation as a public art destination.

The public art sought through this announcement will be:

• Innovative in concept

• Monumental and civic scale

• Culturally appropriate

• Timeless and enduring

• Instantly memorable and a people magnet

• Oklahoma climate appropriate

• Easily maintained

The work sought has a long life and is easy to maintain in addition to having high aesthetic value. Materials and construction must be able to stand up to Oklahoma weather known for wind, thunderstorms, summer heat, and brief but cold winters.

ELIGIBILITY:

This opportunity is open to all practicing artists, at least 18 years of age. Artists with prior public art experience, both those who reside in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area and those who live and work elsewhere, are encouraged to submit their qualifications. Submissions from artist teams are particularly encouraged. Artists selected for final proposals will be paid a competition stipend and must attend all required information sessions or site visits. Proposers/proposer teams should have a wide variety of skills and training such as fabrication, structural engineering, electrical engineering, lighting design/installation, and contractor management. Proposers must demonstrate that they have skills necessary for the successful completion and installation of the proposed design, or can hire and work with qualified professionals to complete required work.
