Downtown Rotary Sculpture Garden

ELIGIBILITY:  The Project is OPEN to artists in a western regional area encompassing Nevada, California, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, and Arizona with experience in public art projects.

 

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: 

The City of Reno Arts & Culture Commission, in collaboration with The Reno Downtown is seeking artists for a two-year temporary installation of sculptural work in Bicentennial Park, immediately east of Ralston Street between First Street and the Truckee River, in downtown Reno.  

 

Goals of this project include: transforming a park into a home for temporary sculpture exhibitions; increase public awareness of art; broaden viewers' perspectives of public spaces within the City and foster a sense of place.

 

SPECIFICATIONS:

All sculptures MUST fit one of the existing pedestals or concrete pads. The maximum weights and sizes vary for each pedestal type. There are two square pedestals measuring 4 feet by 4 feet and 5 feet high, two pedestals measuring 5 feet by 4 feet and 5 feet high, one 6 foot square concrete slab at grade, and one 20 foot diameter footing at grade to allow for the temporary installation of three-dimensional sculptures. The pedestals are topped with a steel plate for welding/securing artwork. See attached for weight specifications. Selected artist(s) will provide an image of the artwork being proposed.

 

The artist(s) selected should have demonstrated experience working in public locations subject to vandalism. Artwork will be selected based on the quality of design and must be able to remain outside for two years.  Proposals should consider the surrounding environs in which they will be placed.  Existing work will be considered provided it fits within the specifications of the pedestals above and on the attached sheets.

 

HONORARIUM:                              

Each selected artist will be provided with a $2,000 honorarium to cover artist expenses such as the temporary lease of the artwork, transportation to and from the installation site, and artist fees for on-site installation and de-installation.
