Hi Jennifer,

We are about to start working on several playfield blacktop mural projects for Milwaukee Public Schools. In doing our research these two crosswalk projects are similar to what you are trying to accomplish, so I thought I'd share with you. Both are fairly recent projects.

Charles Bergen Studios painted this crosswalk in DC's Chinatown for the Chinese zodiac. This project was installed with preformed thermoplastic: https://www.codaworx.com/project/chinatown-barnes-dance

And I met artist Cecilia Lueza when she was in Madison last year. She uses a different type of paint and claims it is very long lasting. I love her use of bright colors in this work for St. Petersburg: https://www.codaworx.com/project/common-ground

Best,

Nick Anderson

I’d love an update in a few years.

We did decorative thermoplastic crossings (dogwood flowers) at my last place of work and they were wearing off within 2 years…

The product may have improved since then, perhaps.

Beth

I apologize for the late reply on the painted crosswalks subject.

The City of Grand Prairie Downtown Redevelopment Task Force recently installed two thermoplastic crosswalks by Dallas artist Ricardo Paniagua.  Here is a link to photos…

I asked the coordinator for this project, Andrew Fortune, about the maintenance and he replied, We anticipate the thermoplastic to last 8-10 years. There is no maintenance necessary. In the event they get a bit dirty, one of the members of the Redevelopment Task Force will go out with a hose and spray it down. The material cleans easily (the rain should manage it).”

Please feel free to contact Andrew at afortune@gptx.org if you have any questions about this project.

Thanks!

Hi there,

We are looking to commission 2 painted crosswalks in the City of Hollister, and I was wondering if anyone could share the following:

1.       Sample maintenance plan for painted crosswalks

2.       Paint recommendations- best for wear and tear

3.       And any traffic/engineering requirements specific to California (i.e. if certain types of crosswalks merit the commissioning of a traffic study)

I would appreciate any feedback, links or recommendations.

Thank you!
