Dear Jim,

When my client city had to move the History of Transportation, a huge WPA petromosaic mural by Helen Lundeberg, they worked out a plan with the experts at the Getty Conservation Institute. That plan was to build a system of backing panels and facing boards to disassemble the wall in sections, preserving as much of the original painting and paint layers as mechanically feasible.
A supporting wall was built, then the art wall panels were installed.

See this link, and the audio interview by ma principal on the conservation team:

I will use that idea as one of the options in the negotiations with the developer if it turns out we can't save the original.

Thanks very much.

No but what about having it photographed and then printed large format on Dibond or something else?

Dear Colleagues:

Has anyone been involved with or know of a project the involved the removal of a cinder block wall on which a mural is painted directly and the wall and mural were reassembled and restored in another location?

Thanks very much for any leads.

Respectfully,

Jim
