ELIGIBILITY: The Project is OPEN to artists in a western regional area encompassing Nevada, California, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, and Arizona with experience in public art projects.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The City of Reno Arts & Culture Commission, in collaboration with The Reno Downtown Rotary, is seeking sculpture for purchase and installation in Bicentennial Park, immediately east of Ralston Street between First Street and the Truckee River, in downtown Reno.
SPECIFICATIONS:
All sculptures MUST fit one of the existing pedestals or concrete pads. The maximum weights and sizes vary for each pedestal type. There are two square pedestals measuring 4 feet by 4 feet and 5 feet high, two pedestals measuring 5 feet by 4 feet and 5 feet high, one 6 foot square concrete slab at grade, and one 20 foot diameter footing at grade to allow for the installation of three-dimensional sculptures. The pedestals are topped with a steel plate for welding/securing artwork. See full call for weight specifications. Selected artist(s) will provide an image of the artwork being proposed.
The artist(s) selected should have demonstrated experience working in public locations subject to vandalism. Artwork will be selected based on the quality of design and higher ranking will be given to pieces that are made of durable materials, need minimal maintenance, and can withstand the high desert climate and public environment. All artwork must be original and created for permanent installation. Proposals should consider the surrounding environs in which they will be placed. Existing work will be considered provided it fits within the specifications of the pedestals above and on the attached sheets. Artists are welcome to propose new work for creation.
BUDGET:
The total budget for this project is $80,000. This includes installation costs. There are six (6) available sculpture pads. The purchase price of the piece should include any artist fees for installation.
THE CITY OF RENO WILL PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING:
Assistance with install of the artworks including welding, cranes, lifts, and site-management. There MAY be additional funding to assist artists with transporting artwork to the site and travel costs.
