Thanks to a reminder from the librarian at the Spencer Art Reference Library at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art that this info is on the artwork label, I can now report that a typical Shuttlecock is approximately 5,500 pounds, 18 feet tall and 16 feet in diameter.

Meghan,

I know The Blanton did a recent indoor hanging sculpture and they would certainly have the weight handy.  You might reach out to:

Subject: Sculpture weights

Hi public art world,

Have you recently made or commissioned a sculpture and know the total object weight?

I have a client who is a visual learner, and has requested a selection of outdoor freestanding sculpture and indoor atrium suspended sculpture with a photo and total weight of the object, to inform engineering of their building structure. (I understand the total weight does not describe the per sf weight, but client is interested in total weight). Size is not a constraint, and light weight objects will be just as informative as heavy ones for this exercise.

Would you be so kind as to share:

-          one photo (installed with something in it for scale would be useful but not necessary)

-          weight

-          main material

-          artist name (so I can keep the credit associated)

Thanks so much in advance for the crowd-sourced knowledge.

M
