Robbie,

I am trying to clarify some the information on the budget for the Airport terminal. I wanted to know if the additional $289K is a part of the fabrication or a part of the total project? I also wanted to clarify if the committee for the Bennett Center would consider a mosaic mural that is low tech and low maintenance?

Thank you,
Crystal Murley

CALL TO ARTISTS: REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS FOR PUBLIC ART FOR THE MAPS 3 OKLAHOMA STATE FAIR BENNETT EVENT CENTER

The City of Oklahoma City announces a call for professional artists to submit their qualifications to be considered for a contract to create public art that will serve as a dynamic attraction in the lobby of the Bennett Event Center on the Oklahoma Fair Grounds. Works of interactive art that respond to motion, air movement, sound, meteorological conditions, or other stimuli, and that incorporate the use of light and possibly sound are particularly encouraged.  The 290,000 square-foot Bennett Event Center offers 200,000-square-feet of contiguous floor space, making it the largest event space in Oklahoma City. The expo building’s modern design features a 15,000-square-foot lobby, concession areas, a ticket space, commercial kitchen and parking for more than 2,000. A combination of glass and translucent wall panel creates an open, light-filled entrance. The work sought through the announcement will be situated in the lobby; the exact location(s) will be proposed by the artist. Any material and medium may be considered, including metal, wood, paint, mosaic, relief, mobiles, New Media work, etc.

ELIGIBILITY:  Open to all practicing artists who are at least 18 years of age. Artists with prior public art
experience, both those who reside in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area and those who live and work
elsewhere, are encouraged to submit proposals. Submissions from artist teams are particularly encouraged. All artists and artist teams selected for final proposals must attend all required information sessions and site visits.

PROJECT BUDGET: $335,000.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE:   Wednesday, September 26, 2018 AT 4:00pm CDT

CALL TO ARTISTS: REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS FOR PUBLIC ART FOR THE MAPS 3 WEST RIVER TRAIL

The City of Oklahoma City announces this call for professional artists to submit their qualifications to be considered for a contract to create public art for the West River Trail. Oklahoma City’s recently constructed West River Trail extends from NW 10th near Lake Overholser to SW 15th Street near Meridian Avenue. The 7.5 mile blacktop trail winds through a variety of terrain including lakes, streams, wooded areas, and open prairie. The trail is typically used daily by hundreds of bikers, walkers, and runners. The art sought will be site appropriate, culturally appropriate, environmentally sound, site specific and easily maintained.  Environmental art, land art, art using recycled or recyclable or materials, or art using natural and locally sourced materials is favored, but not strictly required. Art that unfolds through time and space as trail users move through the landscape is particularly encouraged. Ease of maintenance and longevity of materials will be two major considerations in choosing the art for this site.

PROJECT BUDGET: $70,000.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE:   Wednesday, September 19, 2018 AT 4:00pm CDT

CALL TO ARTISTS: REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS FOR PUBLIC ART FOR WILL ROGERS WORLD AIRPORT TERMINAL EXPANSION ART PROJECT

Steady airline, passenger and tenant growth has created the need for expansion of the existing terminal building at Will Rogers World Airport. The expansion project will add four new airline gates, a larger, more efficient security checkpoint, increased public circulation and new customer amenities such as comfortable greeter lobbies, a military welcome center, and additional concessions.

The Oklahoma City Airport Trust is seeking to commission a professional artist(s) or a team of artists to design, and oversee installation of, integrated permanent works for two specific sites in the terminal expansion project. Site one is the terrazzo flooring located in the new lobby area in front of the new security checkpoint. The design should be incorporated into the flooring. Site two is a public circulation area located on the mezzanine level and where a glass wall extends the length of the access corridor and seating area. The design should be acid-etched into the glass. Construction of the terminal expansion is expected to begin the first quarter of 2019 and to be completed first quarter of 2021.

ELIGIBILITY:  Open to all practicing artists who are at least 18 years of age. Artists with prior public art experience, both those who reside in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area and those who live and work
elsewhere, are encouraged to submit proposals. Submissions from artist teams are particularly encouraged. All artists and artist teams selected for final proposals must attend all required information sessions and site visits.

PROJECT BUDGET: The budget for the implementation of the fully integrated Artwork project for the artist’s or the team’s design and supervision is $130,000. This amount covers any design fees of the selected Artist(s) or team and any additional costs related to the Artwork. The Construction Contract has allowances for the procurement of any specialized or additional materials, labor, shipping, handling or equipment to install the Artwork above what is specified in the Project Manual for the Terminal Renovation and Expansion construction project (approximately $289,000). Any necessary increase to the construction allowances for the Artwork to be fully integrated may diminish the availability of funds for the design aspects. The Artist(s) fees will be inclusive of fees and related expenses for travel and per diem for design meetings and installation oversight, supplies, fabrication, insurance, transportation, and permits. Any fabrication, materials or installation to be performed directly by the Artist(s) and not by the Construction Contractor will be incorporated into the Artist(s) compensation.
