Hi Megan,

We have two ordinances related to public art in private development.  One is a requirement for Metro Districts.  The other is a requirement for Transit Oriented Development Districts.  And, then these requirements are written into city code.  So, it is enforced just as any other building code requirements such a design code requirements.  Therefore, no incentives.

With the booming construction industry right now, working with private developers to help them create a public art plan for their metro district of TOD has become a growing part of my job.  And, we do charge a fee for that service.  It is complex, as some of the developments will roll out over 10-20 years, requiring an ongoing relationship and oversight.

It is very exciting to see some of those projects coming to fruition.

Subject: Incentives for private development to include public art

Hi all,

I am wondering if any of your city or county governments have incentives for private development to include public art--such as: tax incentives, density bonuses, etc. and, if so, could you please share them with me?  We are working on updating our economic development strategy and looking for ways we can support public art.

Thank you,
Megan
