Hi, Megan.
Arlington County includes five community benefits in its standard condition language for optional method or site plan development projects: affordable housing; green building/LEED; transportation demand management; utility undergrounding;
and, public art. These represent our community’s expectations tied to the granting of bonus density.
Here are our developer guidelines which include the current condition language for public art in site plan
projects. Planning staff looks at these standard conditions annually and they are subject to revision. Hope this helps. Angela

Hi Megan,
We have two ordinances related to public art in private development. One is a requirement for Metro Districts. The other is a requirement for Transit Oriented Development Districts. And, then these requirements are written into
city code. So, it is enforced just as any other building code requirements such a design code requirements. Therefore, no incentives.
With the booming construction industry right now, working with private developers to help them create a public art plan for their metro district of TOD has become a growing part of my job. And, we do charge a fee for that service.
It is complex, as some of the developments will roll out over 10-20 years, requiring an ongoing relationship and oversight.
It is very exciting to see some of those projects coming to fruition.

Hi all,
I am wondering if any of your city or county governments have incentives for private development to include public art--such as: tax incentives, density bonuses, etc. and, if so, could you please share them with me? We are working
on updating our economic development strategy and looking for ways we can support public art.
Thank you,
Megan

Hello,
I hope this email finds everyone well. The Richmond Public Art Program in BC, Canada is researching examples of artist-designed street lighting and would welcome any feedback/suggestions from our colleagues. Specifically, we are
looking for past projects which incorporated or engaged an artist as part of the design team for functional pedestrian street lamps. Any experience, guidance and/or advice with respect to processes for identifying project costing, procurement methods, and
any recommendations for professional lighting, engineering or fabrication consultants would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
