Hi Hillary, et al

Last year, AFTA released the attached research paper exploring the intersection of public art and arts education that may provide some inspiration on how to include students, educators and others in public artworks that are a part of a K-12 setting. “Intertwining Practices of Public Art and Arts Education” explores the intersection between public art and arts education by expanding on the current state of each field, the similarities between the two, and the opportunities currently present for further engagement between them.

Enjoy!

Subject: Public art examples in elementary, middle, and high school settings

Dear Public Art Colleagues,

I am looking of examples of public art projects in schools, primarily elementary, middle, and high school settings, although collages/universities could work. We have a $200 million construction project in our near future to build an elementary and middle school complex. I am creating a presentation for the current school community to build advocacy for full implementation of our percent-for-art ordinance. Any project examples would be appreciated but I would love to include a few projects in the $1-2 million range to highlight what would be possible with full funding. I am looking for examples in a range of styles and disciplines and may include: a singular large component, multiple components spread throughout the school, multiple artists, participatory, etc.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hilary
