Hi Hilary,
We’ve been working in K-12 schools for over 40 years, and have over
500 site-responsive commissions at schools captured on our online collection. (For works at higher ed campuses, click on “Explore the Collection” bar from the right-hand menu and refine the search.)
To save you some time, perhaps, nothing is in the $1m to $2m range. Our program, though robust, is funded through ½% of Washington State’s portion of construction costs. In our public schools, where funding sources
are mixed, that amounts to site-responsive artworks between $35,000 and $125,000, and often less than that for older projects. Because our acquisition funds materialize at the construction phase, not during building design, these artworks are rarely truly
integrated.
Best,
Mike

Subject: Public art examples in elementary, middle, and high school settings
Dear Public Art Colleagues,
I am looking of examples of public art projects in schools, primarily elementary, middle, and high school settings, although collages/universities could work. We have a $200 million construction project in our near future to build an elementary
and middle school complex. I am creating a presentation for the current school community to build advocacy for full implementation of our percent-for-art ordinance. Any project examples would be appreciated but I would love to include a few projects in the
$1-2 million range to highlight what would be possible with full funding. I am looking for examples in a range of styles and disciplines and may include: a singular large component, multiple components spread throughout the school, multiple artists, participatory,
etc.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Hilary
