RE: Cultural Relief Funds re: Covid19 lz@knoxalliance.com 17 Mar 2020 14:33 UTC

Absolutely! I was in such a hurry I misstated the name! It's actually Giving Relief to Arts and Culture in Emergencies. The requirements are:

1) The artist (or stage manager, or sound tech, or usher, or designer) must show proof that they have worked in the LOCAL art and culture industry (either contract, full, or part-time) in two of the previous five years. They should be able to provide W-2's or copies of checks for services rendered from organizations or corporations OR be able to show where they exhibited or performed work locally. We do not care how much money they earned but only that they participated professionally on some level.
2) The applicant must be able to prove that they are a local resident by providing a phone bill or other document.
3) The applicant needs to provide copies of bills or invoices that the GRACE Fund pays directly. We do not give money directly to applicants. GRACE Fund checks are made out to creditors. We usually contact the creditors (by phone) in the presence of the applicant so that everyone is on the same page.
4) The applicant agrees to meet with one of our partner social service agencies who helps them move through the emergency on a more long term basis. Some of our partners are: The Knoxville Area Urban League, the Metropolitan Drug Coalition (if that is applicable), or the local unemployment office.
5) The maximum amount an applicant can receive is $2,000 every six months. In order to re-apply in six months, the applicant must show that they have followed-through with the appointment we made for them with one of our nonprofit partners (above).
6) Grants are all confidential. Applications are approved within two weeks (since they are emergency funds). The "panel" that approves the grants is made up of the executive committee of the board of the Arts & Culture Alliance.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

This is awesome. Are you willing to share your criteria for how the grants are awarded?

We created the GRACE (Giving Relief to Arts, Culture, and Entertainment) Fund last year. Here's the link:

We are looking into this now in Albuquerque. This is my first priority telecommute assignment 😳, so I’m looking for examples of criteria as well and will share what we come up with.
