170 years ago the feminist movement in American was born in Seneca Falls, New York at the first Women's Rights Conference in 1848. This was where Elizabeth Cady Stanton drafted The Declaration of Sentiments, which called for the right to vote for women in the United States. It would be 72 years later that women would finally get this right in America.
The 100th anniversary of women getting the right to vote is coming up in 2020. Oklahoma City Artist Marilyn Mcbride Artus has a LARGE art project in the works. She needs to find a woman artist from each of the 36 states, ARIZONA, ARKANSAS, CALIFORNIA, COLORADO, IDAHO, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, KANSAS, KENTUCKY, MAINE, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, MISSOURI, MINNESOTA, MONTANA, NEBRASKA, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW MEXICO, NEW YORK, NEVADA, NORTH DAKOTA, OHIO, OKLAHOMA, OREGON, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, SOUTH DAKOTA, TENNESSEE, TEXAS, UTAH, WASHINGTON, WEST VIRGINIA, WISCONSIN AND WYOMING, that ratified the 19th amendment to partner with her reinterpretation of the American flag.
