Dear Kat,

I would be honored to do this.  I’ve served on grant panels locally in Dallas for the Office of Cultural Affairs and others, and as well as for the Texas Commission on the Arts and General Services Administration.

Subject: [Americans for the Arts] Grant Reviewers Needed

Dear UAF Colleagues -

Fund for the Arts (Louisville, KY) recently redesigned its general operating support grant application and review process. As part of this transformation, we are recruiting a panel of grant reviewers from outside of Kentucky to provide an unbiased, expert perspective on the submitted applications. We are reaching out to you, as a leader in your field, with an invitation to participate on the panel. Below is additional information about our process. A key consideration in building our panel is diversity.

Will I be paid for my participation? Yes, we will provide a stipend of $400 as well as meals, hotel, and travel (mileage reimbursement or flight).

What is the review timeline? You will be provided access to the applications in late-May. You will have approximately three weeks to submit your scores. The Grant Review Panel will take place on June 10 and 11, 2019 in Louisville KY.

What is the review process? 25 organizations have submitted applications. All panelists will have approximately three weeks to read and score all applications via an online portal. Panelists will then come to Louisville for two days to participate in the Grant Review Panel, during which panelists will meet with all applicants to ask clarifying questions about the applications. After each applicant meets with the panel, the panelists will submit their final scores.

How much of my time is required? We estimate that each application will require 1 to 2 hours to review and score, so a total of 25 to 50 hours. The applicants are divided into three categories: Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3. Level 3 applicants submit significantly more information than do Level 1 applicants, so the amount of time necessary to review the application varies by Level. Additionally, your time will be spent traveling to and from Louisville and in the two-day Grant Review Panel. Prior to the panel meetings, we will host a call with the panelists to go over all review materials and answer any questions you may have (once we have all reviewers confirmed, we will schedule this call).

Thank you for your time and consideration. If you are interested in participating on the panel, please contact me at 859-691-0319 or Once I hear from you, I will reach out to schedule a follow up call with you to discuss next steps in more detail.

Please reach out any time with the questions.
