Hi all – In St. Louis I am following City of St. Louis guidelines as we reopen our Centene Center for the Arts. We are an arts incubator and have rehearsal and performance space that is flexible – no fixed
seating. I’ve attached our document and signs that are at all entrances
We have a Reopening the Arts workgroup that is tasked with setting guidelines for all arts performance venues – I’ll share a draft in a week or so…

Subject: [Americans for the Arts] RE: Questions about reopening
Hi everyone,
In Durham our Mayor and County Commissioner Chair have launched a Recovery Task Force this week, and as part of that effort there will be industry-specific roundtables doing virtual meetings starting next week.
Round tables will include ones for: performance venues, restaurants, retail, youth programmers(summer camps, etc), and more. The feedback from the roundtables will help shape decisions and policies to be established
by City and County. My staff and I will participate in all that pertain to us.
However, the Mayor indicated this week that masks are required as everyone moves into reopening phases and performance venues will probably be the last frontier to reopen – likely into the fall. Our building
has 2 performance venues, however we also have art classrooms and dance and music studios, galleries and rehearsal spaces. We are looking at ways to do small group programming starting in July, with masks required of everyone. That is as far as we know.
We are reaching out to colleagues in the region with similar facilities to share ideas and strategies.
I don’t know yet what we will do about Third Friday art exhibit openings (multiple venues downtown) going forward – most are going virtual for now.
Happy to share whatever we develop, and will eagerly look for anything that you folks share as well!

We are struggling with these questions as well. Our community doesn’t have specific guidelines for performance venues leaving us to try and figure it out ourselves. I too am interested in hearing from communities
that are developing safe practices so live arts performances can resume.

Subject: [Americans for the Arts] UAF: Questions about reopening
Good morning,
I hope everyone is doing well! We are looking for some quick input from our colleagues around the country about what you're seeing in terms of reopening arts and cultural organizations.
1. What are your cities and towns doing about the reopening of arts organizations? Are some opening, are they staying closed, are there specific types of organizations allowed to open but not others (i.e. museums are opening but
not theaters)?
2. What are performing arts venues doing? Are they opening now, reopening for their next season in the fall, waiting until 2021?
3. Have any of your communities already put out any reopening guidelines or recommendations specific to arts and cultural organizations? Or, have you put together reopening plans, guidelines or recommendations that you have provided
to state or local officials?
We're currently working with City of Hartford officials on this topic, so we appreciate your input!
Thank you,
Kate
